Steve Cropper and Peter Barton

I have been touring Scandinavia now since the early 80's. My agent since the early days was Calle Nielson at CB Ole Booking in Randers. In 2007, I was over there on tour and he had just got back from Nashville. He had been out there with a veteran of the Scandinavian Blues scene, Peter Belli. Peter had been recording a new album with, of all people Steve Cropper. Immediately my brain went into overdrive. Calle gave me Steve's personal telephone number. I spent the next few months calling Steve to see if he fancied coming to England to perform as a special guest to Animals and Friends. I finally got the call back from Angel, his wife. The answer was yes. I scheduled a period in the summer of 2008. The colonel was coming to England. When he arrived we had a days rehearsal then out on the road. It was great singing some of his self penned songs like 6345789 and performing the old Booker T and the MG's numbers. The set consisted of Green Onions, Time is Tight, Knock on Wood, Midnight Hour, Soul Man, Dock of the Bay, Water, 6345789, Hip Hug Her etc. We recorded one of the shows. Its a great feeling being on stage performing Green Onions and standing right next to me is the colonel himself, Steve Cropper. It doesn't get much better.
