Lieutenant Pigeon - Steve Johnson 1989

I have never professed to being a singer... But back in the late 80's I was doing the odd Jingle for radio stations. I used to do them at a studio in Blackburn called 4000 holes. The owner of the studio was a chap called Steve Johnson. I remember doing this session once, I was singing about double glazing and Steve had been redoing the studio. On the wall in the control room was a gold record. I hadn't seen it before so I asked where he had got it from. It turned out it was his. Back in 1972 he was the bass player with Number One hit recording band Lieutenant Pigeon. I was still playing in Shout at this time but really fancied a change. I managed to talk him into putting Lieutenant Pigeon back on the road. I switched from Bass to guitar and Steve suggested one of his old mates for drums Geoff Hammond and I got Simon Hough an old friend of mine in also on guitar. The band clicked immediately. We became one of the hardest working 70's bands on the circuit. Headlining many festivals. We recorded an album called Retro mania. Steve stayed in the band for around three years but decided to give it up in 2002. We then got one of Simon's old friends in on bass, a guy called Chris Allen. I still have contact to all the guys, in fact Chris still plays in a band with me. The Barton Donahue band and Creedence Clearwater Revived. Steve is still doing his radio jingles and Simon and Geoff are still playing in bands together. This band lasted about 10 years. Ironically in 2009 we decided to get back together to do a handful of gigs. The 20th Anniversary.
