Jazzimal

This album was finished in 2009.

How Jazzimal came about. Mickey Gallagher, One of the original Blocheads introduced me to his drummer, namely Dylan Howe.(Incidently Steve Howe is Dylans dad). Dylan has a band namely The Dylan Howe Quintet. I put some gigs in for Dylan around 2006 and I thought wow what a great band. It would be cool to maybe do something together.

I came up with the idea of re recording some of The Animals songs that I perform with John Steel and Mick Gallagher. I asked if Dylan would be interested, the answer was yes and this album is the fruits of our labour.

I am by no means a Jazz singer, in fact I use the name singer very loosly in everything I do, but its a little different. Since doing this album Mickey has now introduced me to a Jo Harrup a phenominal Jazz girl singer who we have had in the studio to redo the vocals for a future project.

This album may not be everyones taste, but what it does do is highlight one of Britains finest jazz bands. The Dylan Howe Quintet.

The Dylan Howe Quintet

Acclaimed drummer Dylan Howe leads a Blue Note-styled group, compared to the groups of Roy Haynes (The Times), Elvin Jones (Jazz Journal) and Art Blakey (The Guardian).
Featuring top-drawer players from the London jazz scene.
DHQ has often featured as critic's choice with performances at Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Express Dean Street, Jazz Café, Southbank Centre, London Jazz Festival and The Sage Gateshead among many others.

'Howe, always inspiring and invigorating in any genre.' 'THE GUARDIAN
'('DH) rightly acclaimed as one of the best drummers of his generation.' RONNIE SCOTTS
'The best neo-bop group in the country' LONDON EVENING STANDARD
'A looseness reminiscent of Miles' 1960s ensemble. (DH) knows exactly how the dynamics and drama of this idiom are supposed to work, and he proves himself to be a sophisticated composer of slow tone-poetry.' John Fordham - THE GUARDIAN
'Searing modal hard bop from drummer Howe, playing scorching originals and drawing on the spirit of classic 60's Blue Note' THE TIMES, TOP FIVE JAZZ
